Chapter 1: The Queens of the School

|In this world, there exist things you shouldn’t defy.

For students, their teachers; for employees, their bosses; for butlers, their masters… and so on.

But if you’re willing to pay the price—prepared to lose your position—you could defy them as well.

The things you absolutely must not defy are those who possess power and money, but also are truly dangerous people as human beings.

In this vast world, such individuals rarely exist in reality.

And for me—I, Aima Eito—their existence was right beside me.

          ◆

“Uuugh… Another year where I’m not in the same class as you, Onii-chan…”

Today, as I advanced to my second year, my twin sister Hina — also now a second-year — slumped her shoulders beside me in disappointment.

Hina is small, only 148 cm tall, and to me she’s an adorable, clingy little sister I can’t help but dote on.

I also wanted to be in the same class as Hina, but we’ve never been placed together despite being siblings.

Even at a private school, they don’t bend on such matters.

…Normally.

“Well, it can’t be helped. I wonder which class you ended up in?”

It just happened that the Class B list was posted right in front of me, and I saw my name on it, but I hadn’t checked the other three class lists yet.

Ideally, I’d have preferred her to be in the adjacent class…

“Um…”

For now, let’s just check the class lists starting from Class A.

With that casual thought, Hina walked over to the Class A posting—and found her own name written there.

However, the sound she made earlier wasn’t a cheerful “There it is!” of excitement.

It was a voice filled with something closer to despair—a heavy, negative emotion.

“What’s wrong?”

“……I’m in the same class as the Tenjouin sisters…”

“Seriously…?”

Looking at Hina’s trembling hand pointing at the paper, I confirmed the list and saw the names “Tenjouin Emera” and “Tenjouin Furei,” two individuals you absolutely must not get involved with at this school.

In short, they’re both extremely dangerous people.

“Onii-chan, what should I do…!?”

Hina, who hadn’t expected to end up in the same class as the Tenjouin sisters, looked up at me tearfully.

I felt a bit sympathetic… I would have gladly taken her place if I could—but wait, hold on… this class…

“Is there no male name listed here…?”

“Eh!?”

Hearing my words, Hina turned back to the class list in surprise.

It’s not like I know every single student’s name.

In fact, there are plenty of names I don’t recognize.

Even so, there were no names that sounded like a boy’s name.

“Ah, you noticed. I thought you’d never notice because you’re always daydreaming.”

A sudden, cold and sharp voice came from behind us.

When I turned around, I saw a beautiful girl with long, straight hair that fluttered in the wind—a streak of her bangs was pure white, while the rest shone gold. Narrowing her murky red-and-blue eyes, she looked down at us as if judging from above.

She was Tenjouin Emera, who, despite being a student, had become the de facto ruler of this school.

Her left arm held her younger sister Furei, who clung to her like a child seeking comfort.

Furei was the opposite of Emera—a section of her bangs was gold, while the rest of her hair was entirely white.

Furei’s eyes were the mirror image of Emera’s—Emera had a red right eye and a blue left eye, while Furei’s right eye was blue and her left eye was red. They were both heterochromatic.

By the way, her hairstyle was a bob cut, so even though they were twins, they weren’t completely identical.

…Even their chests were different—Furei had curves on the level of a gravure idol, while Emera was completely flat, almost like a board.

I couldn’t let my eyes wander—if she caught me looking, she’d kill me.

Besides, I don’t look anything like Hina either, so I’m in no position to talk.

“…………”

While I was lost in thought, Furei was staring straight at my face with those clear, gemstone-like eyes of hers — so different from Emera’s.

Even though they shared the same colors, the impression was completely different. It was probably just their expressions.
Well… she might look quiet, but Furei is pretty dangerous in her own way too.

“So that means you’re the one who arranged this class, Tenjouin-san?”

“Yes. I can’t possibly allow a beast like a boy anywhere near Furei. Honestly, we should have arranged it this way last year as well.”

Emera laughed softly, covering her mouth with her hand, not looking the least bit guilty.

Normally, this would be unthinkable.

However, their family is a world-renowned conglomerate that has donated large sums to this school.

Because of that, these sisters act however they please—like queens ruling over the academy.

Incidentally, I was in the same class as them last year and witnessed their tyranny firsthand. Therefore, I know their cruelty far beyond mere rumors.

But the trouble isn’t just their family background or personalities.

Their appearance is so unlike Japanese people—that’s not quite right. Their mysterious beauty has led some to elevate them as divine incarnations, while others seek favors from them, earning them widespread support among female students, which complicates things further.

Of course, there are also male students attracted to them.

However, the Tenjouin sisters despise men and treat them cruelly, so far more people fear them than like them.

As for me, I avoided their harsh treatment last year by staying quiet in the corner of my class…

“Should I say ‘as expected’?”

“Of course! And you should think we’re being kind by not expelling all males. Honestly, I restrained myself from wanting to banish every single one of them.”

Then why are they attending a co-ed school? Go to a girls’ school instead.

That’s what I think in my heart, but I would never say it out loud.

The worst thing you can do is defy them.

If we did, merciless judgment would descend upon us.

“How generous of you.”

“I know, right?”

In response to my sarcastic remark, Emera nodded in satisfaction. Honestly, she has a great personality.

“Hina, let’s go—”

“—You… are also in the same class…?”

Since interacting with them never ends well, I was about to take Hina and leave this place quickly.

As I spoke to her, Furei lifted her head from Emera’s shoulder and suddenly pointed at Hina.

“Eh…!? Y-yes…”

Hina nervously nodded her head up and down.

This caused Emera to narrow her eyes as if appraising Hina.

“I see… well… nice to meet you…”

In contrast, Furei seemed to lose interest and rested her head on Emera’s shoulder again.

Was she just trying to check whether she was a classmate…?

No, in her case, it definitely wasn’t just that…

“N-nice to meet you…”

Hina seemed terrified of the Tenjouin sisters and bowed nervously.

Though Emera continued to stare at Hina, I thought there wouldn’t be any problems since Hina is polite.

“Don’t be so scared. The Tenjouin sisters are kind to girls, so you can feel safe.”

I gently stroked Hina’s head to comfort her because she looked so pitiful.

In truth, they’re kind to obedient girls.

Their arrogant attitude doesn’t change, and they often use their jaw to command others, but in return, they give money or gifts and pamper them.

Emera is completely devoted to Furei — to the point of being an extreme siscon — and she has no interest in any other girls.

But the Furei she adores so obsessively actually cherishes the girls who follow her.

That’s why, in the end, Emera also treats those girls with care… or at least, that’s how I see their relationship.

The fact that Furei spoke to Hina probably means she found her cute and took an interest in her. If Hina keeps things going like this and stays on her good side, she should be fine.

Emera herself may act high-handed and do outrageous things, but surprisingly, she’s got a pretty big heart. As long as you don’t do anything that might hurt Furei, she’ll overlook small mistakes — I saw that much last year.

Of course, that only applies to girls.

The real problem is what happens if someone hurts Furei. At the start of last year, a girl who made fun of Furei’s looks was driven through hell and then expelled, and another girl who accidentally bumped into Furei while messing around was bullied relentlessly until she cried and apologized on her knees—and just when you’d think she’d been forgiven, she was forced to transfer schools.

Honestly, with monsters like them, it’s best to stay far, far away if you want to stay safe.

“…Come to think of it, Aima-kun, you also have a twin sister… like me. Not that it matters much.”

Even while I was patting Hina’s head, Emera kept staring at me steadily, but eventually she lost interest, looked away, and turned to deal with her followers instead. Judging by that, she probably won’t do anything to Hina.

—And with that, I let out a quiet sigh of relief.
