Chapter 47: Ordinary

Kuzuryuu didn’t care in the slightest that I needed to use the bathroom—he stopped me purely for his own convenience and started talking at me one-sidedly.

“You should know without me saying it, right? Haa… fine, I guess I have no choice… I’ll spell it out so even a commoner like you can understand, alright? You’d better be grateful.”

“…What?”

“You, break up with Shizuku.”

“…No way.”

“Yes, yes, that’s it—being so obedient is exactly what a commoner like yo—huh? …What!?”

“Wow, that’s like a textbook reaction.”

“Y-You! What are you acting so cool about?! I… I’m giving you an order! Just listen quietly! That’s what a normal person would do, right?!”

“…Let me ask you one thing—why are you so obsessed with Fuyunagi-san, Kuzuryuu?”

“Hah!? Are you stupid? A woman that good!? It’d practically be a universal mistake if I, of all people, didn’t take care of her!!”

“Hah? Universal?”

“That’s right!! I am loved by the world—loved by God!! And Shizuku’s beauty is on a universal level!! Someone like me, a child chosen by God, is the only one worthy of her!!”

What nonsense is this guy spouting… Is his head okay…?

No, something is definitely wrong with him if he can say this kind of chuunibyou nonsense with a straight face…

Actually, this is worse than chuunibyou… Even the guy who claims his left arm seals away the Flames of Eternal Darkness is more endearing than this.

“You already know it yourself, don’t you? Someone like you isn’t worthy of Shizuku. A plain nobody whose face, height, build, athletic ability, everything, is below average! There’s no way someone like that is worthy of Shizuku, right!? You understand that better than anyone, don’t you!? When people compare you to Shizuku and say you don’t match, that you’re not good enough—are you really okay with that!? There’s no way you’re okay with that, right!? A normal guy like you getting pointed at and talked about behind your back, there’s no way that doesn’t hurt, right!!!? Heeheeheeahhahaha!”

“…”

“You can’t talk back, can you!!? I hit the mark, didn’t I!!? No way you can deny it, right!!?”

“…Hey.”

“Haaah!?”

“Is this conversation still going? I need to go to the bathroom, so can we do this later?”

“Huh!? Wha-what are you saying…!?”

Honestly, I got over that kind of worry a long time ago.

If I decide to be Fuyunagi Shizuku’s boyfriend, I can’t afford to be hung up on those ordinary insecurities.

I might have wavered a little before.

But now it’s too late for such things. It feels like an afterthought at this point.

It’s not even a threat.

“And besides, if we’re talking about being a bad match, I’d say you, Kuzuryuu, are pretty mismatched with her too.”

“Hah!? Wha—!? You—!”

I quietly slipped past the flustered Kuzuryuu and headed toward the bathroom.

What a waste of time for such an insignificant five-minute break…

When I finished and stepped out of the bathroom, Kuzuryuu, shockingly, was still there.

“Hey! What do you mean I don’t match her!!? I, who am loved by God!!”

Doesn’t this guy like to refer to himself repeatedly way too much?

“When it comes to looks, sure—you’re undeniably handsome, and maybe you would look good next to someone as beautiful as Fuyunagi-san.”

“Hahaha!! See? You do get it!!”

“But you still can’t date Fuyunagi-san.”

“Aaaand I’m asking why that is. Why can’t you understand that, hmm?”

“…Right. It’s because you’re ordinary, Kuzuryuu.”

“Hah? I’m ordinary? I, who am super rich and super handsome? What exactly are your eyes looking at?”

“Fuyunagi-san has no interest in ordinary men… she simply doesn’t. Guys who think it’s normal for handsome men to be popular, or who admire pretty girls, or who want to get along with cute girls, or who want to do erotic things with a girl with a sexy body—those common values that every guy usually has? She has zero interest in men who believe those are absolute.”

“Huh…? What are you even—”

“Aren’t you starting to figure it out, too, Kuzuryuu? You’ve interacted with Fuyunagi-san quite a bit, so you must already be starting to realize that her tastes, preferences, and way of thinking are weird.”

“Shu-shut up!! Don’t talk like you’re anything special!! You’re just a mob character with absolutely no distinguishing features!”

“…”

Riiiing.

The warning bell rang.

A loud, synthesized sound, amplified enough to spread throughout the entire school, rang out from speakers installed somewhere in the building.

“Time to go back to class, Kuzuryu.”

“Not yet! This conversation isn’t over yet, Takuma!!”

“…”

I silently head toward the classroom.

There’s nothing more to say to this guy.

“Wait—wait up! You’re just an average guy too!! Just some plain-looking commoner!!”

Right.

I’m a plain, unremarkable guy with an ordinary face.

Kuzuryuu isn’t wrong at all.

I don’t even know why Fuyunagi-san likes me in the first place, so I’m probably not in any position to act like I understand anything…

Still, being around her reveals something.

Her preferences and Kuzuryuu’s personality are completely opposite.

He is significantly out of sync with what she wants.

That much should have been obvious by now.

And I know the only way for an ordinary guy like me to be liked by her.

It’s to show no interest in her at all.

No interest in her beauty, her authority, her value, her influence, her existence, or her worth.

To treat her with a certain amount of indifference.

That is the secret to being liked by her.

…This is what Majima Takuma believes.

But this belief isn’t correct anymore.

No, it was once correct.

It was an accurate understanding without error.

But the Fuyunagi Shizuku of today… no longer holds those kinds of values.

Something like this happened once before.

Majima Takuma was watching a movie with Sakurada Nagisa.

When Fuyunagi Shizuku confronted him about it, she blew up at him and he ended up dumping her.

In her mind, she had been “cheated on,” snapped in anger, and then got dumped.

Of course, that’s not an accurate understanding of what happened.

Majima Takuma does not hold romantic feelings for Sakurada, and Sakurada has her main love interest, Sado.

But to Shizuku, that didn’t matter in the slightest.

For her, men are nothing more than lowly, lustful monkeys.

Immature, foolish wild animals.

She was cheated on and dumped by one of those very men she considered a lowly, inferior being—Majima Takuma.

An inferior being, a lustful monkey.

And among them, the only one who stood out was Majima Takuma.

He had no interest in my beauty, my authority, my worth, my influence, my significance, or my very value as a person.

I had never met someone like that before.

Not once in my life.

That’s why I confessed to him.

And yet… and yet!!

Majima Takuma broke up with me.

That was her first shock.

Somewhere inside, without realizing it, she must have been looking down on Majima Takuma back then.

She must have lumped him together with the other lustful monkeys—those immature, inferior males she always looked down on.

That’s why it shocked her so much.

He “cheated” and then dumped her.

And so, her entire worldview was rewritten.

For the first time in my life, I had encountered someone like that.

Someone who would look down on me and treat me carelessly.

Someone who truly had no interest in me whatsoever.

The idea of looking down on Majima Takuma is already gone within her.

Meanwhile, Majima Takuma subconsciously finds dating Fuyunagi Shizuku to be a slight annoyance.

That very feeling of annoyance is what binds Fuyunagi Shizuku.

As a result, Majima Takuma has become the only man for Fuyunagi Shizuku.

That’s simply how things turned out.

Character Summary (non-official)
  • Majima Takuma / Taku (真島 拓真 / タク) — Taku is an utterly average high school boy in both appearance and ability. His hair and uniform are always neat but unremarkable, giving him the classic “background character” characteristic.

  • Fuyunagi Shizuku (冬柳 雫) — Fuyunagi Shizuku is a stunning black-haired high school beauty with a mature, graceful aura. Her long, silky hair, elegant posture, pure and innocent atmosphere, and impressive figure—including her large chest—give her an appearance so gentle and comforting that a tired working adult might instinctively want to cling to her and call her “Mama.” Her looks alone make her feel like a UR-rarity heroine. At school, she’s admired as a pure, wholesome, and almost ideal girl—popular among girls, constantly confessed to by boys, and always at the center of her class. In private, however, Shizuku reveals a selfish, bratty, and emotionally unstable side. She’s clingy, easily upset, mentally fragile, and relies heavily on her boyfriend for emotional support while demanding secrecy and setting controlling conditions in their relationship.

  • Sakurada Nagisa (桜田 凪咲) — Sakurada Nagisa is a gyaru and one of the central members of Fuyunagi-san’s friend group. With light-brown hair, piercings, and perfectly applied bold eye makeup, she has a flashy style but is undeniably beautiful—cute enough to stand out even among the popular girls. Sado Kengo’s current girlfriend.

  • Natsume Kano (夏芽 華乃) — The class president. A dignified, serious beauty whose pure appearance gives her a charm distinct from Fuyunagi-san. She prioritizes efficiency, logic, and rationality above all else, resulting in a rigid, no-nonsense personality that makes her unpopular with most classmates.

  • Sado Kengo (佐渡 健吾) — A high-spec soccer club member who once acted as Shizuku’s fake public boyfriend. He is now Sakurada Nagisa’s actual boyfriend.

  • Katou Susumu (加藤 進) — The textbook “protagonist’s best friend” character. He’s a founding member of the self-proclaimed “Unpopular Men’s Club”. Although he’s extremely jealous of Takuma for landing a girlfriend like Fuyunagi—thus “betraying” the Unpopular Men’s Club (a group Takuma never actually agreed to join)—Kato remains loyal to him despite both his jealousy and the negative public opinion surrounding Takuma.

  • Fuyunagi Reiko (冬柳 澪子) — Fuyunagi Shizuku’s mother. She is, in every sense, the woman Shizuku was shaped from—from their breathtaking beauty to the way they view men and even their underlying desires all mirror one another. Beneath that elegant, doll-like exterior lies a strict and controlling parent fixated on restoring the Fuyunagi family’s former prestige. Unlike Shizuku—who directs her warped affection toward someone she genuinely chose—Reiko tries to force her ambitions onto her daughter, believing that arranging Shizuku’s marriage is the key to reclaiming the family’s lost glory.

  • Fuyunagi Kanemasa (冬柳 兼政) — Fuyunagi Shizuku’s father. A highly capable and successful man who even took the Fuyunagi family name in order to marry Reiko. Despite the family’s rigid traditions, Kanemasa is the one person who genuinely supports Shizuku, encouraging her to live freely and choose her own path—including whom she loves. The only reason Shizuku’s mother and grandfather don’t openly oppose his stance is because his success and value to the family make him too important to antagonize.

  • Kuzuryuu Shiori (久豆流 詩織) — Souma’s younger sister—a beautiful, sharp-tongued genius with strikingly foreign features. Despite her Japanese-sounding name, she is a natural blonde with radiant golden hair, inherited from their great-grandmother, and possesses elegant looks that stand out strongly against Souma’s more traditionally Japanese appearance. Cold, dismissive, and brutally honest toward her brother, she seems to harbor open disdain for him, even though she once adored him as a child. Academically, she is a prodigy who skipped grades at fifteen, now attending university with multiple acclaimed research papers to her name. Her intelligence creates a stark contrast to Souma, fueling his inferiority complex and twisted sister-obsessed longing.

  • Kuzuryuu Souma (久豆流 創真) — Fuyunagi Shizuku’s arranged marriage partner.
