Chapter 1: Prologue
It’s an incredibly fortunate thing, but—believe it or not—I actually have a girlfriend.
Having a girlfriend when I’m someone who’s neither popular nor attractive, with average looks and grades, is like a miracle. I want to loudly express my gratitude to fate for bringing me together with her.
And she’s so beautiful that it feels almost embarrassing to be with her.
She has long black hair and carries herself with a mature grace, giving off an impression that makes words like “pure” or “innocent,” usually reserved for fictional characters, seem fitting.
Plus, she has large breasts and a great figure.
With her gentle, motherly appearance, if I were some worn-out working adult beaten down by the harshness of society, I’d probably want to cling to her and call her “Mama” on the spot.
She’s truly an amazing girl that someone like me, an unremarkable average person, shouldn’t have.
I’m really glad I met her…
…That was my thought before we started dating.
No, I don’t want to break up or anything. We’re still a couple now.
But… I’ve become uneasy about whether continuing our relationship is the right choice moving forward.
Huh? You think I’m being greedy?
You can think that if you want, but at least hear me out to the end first.
She gave me several conditions for us to be together.
One of them was not telling anyone at school about our relationship.
When I asked why, she said it was for my sake.
My girlfriend is popular at school.
She has lots of female friends, and she’s been confessed to by boys more times than I can count.
She told me that she wanted to protect me from the jealousy and resentment of guys who are after her.
That makes sense, a reasonable reason.
But I know the real reason.
I figure it’s because she doesn’t want our classmates or her friends to know she chose someone as low-level as me to be her boyfriend.
Well, there’s no real evidence, but considering her personality, it’s entirely plausible.
There were other conditions too.
“You’re the one I really care about, okay? So I want you to trust me.”
That’s how she prefaced it before saying this:
“I’m thinking of getting a ‘public’ boyfriend. But you’re my real boyfriend, so it’s not cheating, okay? So don’t worry.”
No, no—what part of that am I supposed to not feel worry about?
It only sounded to me like she just wanted a high-spec boyfriend than someone like me.
Even so, as long as I was still her “real boyfriend”… as long as she would put me first… Looking back now, that was a pretty messed-up way of thinking, and I regret it.
I feel like scolding myself for being so scared of getting dumped that I accepted such a ridiculous, nonsensical condition.
And the final condition.
“We’re having home dates at least four times a week. That’s non-negotiable, okay?”
Home dates.
That means we have to be together at each other’s houses four times a week.
This practically guarantees that I’ll spend weekends with her and even stay with her after school. This was an amazing condition for me.
I never expected her to offer such a convenient condition for me… If you’re a man, wouldn’t it be very exciting to have her in your room?
But personally, what surprised me the most was the fact that she was the one who suggested this kind of condition.
However, I quickly understood why.
Despite her mature and pure image, her true nature is that of a typical female brat with a terrible mental state.
She gets mentally unstable easily when friends say something to her or when her parents scold her for bad grades. She also gets mentally unstable after rejecting multiple proposals from guys.
In fact, she even gets mentally unstable just by maintaining the pure girl image.
She becomes easily upset and sulks over minor things.
So my role is essentially that of a mental clinic for her.
What’s important here is not to give advice or voice my own opinions carelessly.
The key is to listen thoroughly without interfering.
Only speak up with advice when she specifically asks for it.
Even then, you have to be extremely careful when giving advice.
If you say anything even slightly more than what she wants to hear, she suddenly snaps and starts freaking out, so you really have to be careful around her.
I’m happy when she clings to me—at least it makes me feel needed—but sometimes… no, lately, I’ve clearly started finding it to be annoying.
And so, I’m really worried about whether I can keep things going smoothly with her from here on out.
I don’t want to break up.
The truth is, I don’t want to let go of this miracle where someone like me, a low-level guy, gets to date a girl who’s UR rarity in terms of looks.
